Estimated GFR (eGFR) Kidney Calculator

Use this advanced online eGFR Calculator to estimate your glomerular filtration rate (GFR) using the clinically standard CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) creatinine equation. Enter your serum creatinine level, age, and gender to instantly view your calculated eGFR, kidney function stage (Stage 1 to Stage 5), and clinical interpretations.

Understanding eGFR & Kidney Health

The Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) measures how much blood passes through your kidney's filters (glomeruli) each minute. Since direct measurement is complex, clinicians estimate it (eGFR) using blood creatinine levels:

  • Creatinine: A metabolic waste product from normal muscle breakdown. Healthy kidneys filter creatinine from the blood and excrete it in urine. If kidney function decreases, creatinine levels rise.
  • CKD-EPI Equation: Developed in 2009, this equation is widely recognized as the most accurate creatinine-based estimation method for GFR across general adult populations.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Staging Table

Kidney function is classified into six diagnostic stages based on GFR level (mL/min/1.73m²):

  • Stage 1 (eGFR ≥ 90): Kidney damage with normal or high kidney function.
  • Stage 2 (eGFR 60–89): Mild loss of kidney function.
  • Stage 3a (eGFR 45–59): Mild to moderate loss of kidney function.
  • Stage 3b (eGFR 30–44): Moderate to severe loss of kidney function.
  • Stage 4 (eGFR 15–29): Severe loss of kidney function.
  • Stage 5 (eGFR < 15): Kidney failure (requires dialysis or transplantation).

GFR estimations can be influenced by diet, muscle mass (e.g. bodybuilders or muscle wasting), pregnancy, and acute illness. Always consult a healthcare provider to interpret kidney function test results.
